There may be some truth to the old legends of giants in just about every culture in the World. The Norse (Vikings) called giants, “jötnar” pronounced “yoot-nar” (singular: jotunn or jotun). They are also known to the Norse as the þursar (singular þurs, pronounced “thurs”), which are a race of giants that live in a place the Norse call Jötunheimr. To our common knowledge, Hobbits are a fictional, diminutive, humanoid race who inhabit the lands of Middle Earth in J. R. R. Tolkien’s fiction novel “The Hobbit.” They are also referred to as Halflings. Hobbits first appeared in the novel The Hobbit, whose titular hobbit is the protagonist, Bilbo Baggins.
